I have a friend who hated New York because she felt as if she were underground looking up at the sky. Which I actually like because it has the most beautiful walls in the world.
I've driven cross country many many times and it still surprises me both on the ground and above it how big the country is and how many remarkable places there are.
Bits and pieces are visible everywhere if you walk looking left and right and not straight ahead - though it is not actually advisable because you will provoke comments both from strangers and your companions and tend to walk into things. You can also see things from the passenger seat you will never see if you are driving. Hopefully.
